What is your role at your Host Organization?

Since starting my fellowship at Nestle USA, I have grown both personally and professionally every day. Nestle is such an exemplary workplace, and my supervisor, Liz, always encourages me to keep going, even when I’m still learning a new skill. She’s a leader by instinct and influences me every day to love what I do and to pour so much passion and effort into it. I value every day at Nestlé because I know she has got my back. That’s a crucial thing to have, especially when you’re an international fellow.

Social Issue/Interest Area: Responsible sourcing and rural development

Fun fact: I love snorkeling even though I’m a terrible swimmer

Why did you decide to host an Atlas Corps Fellow?

There were two main reasons we wanted to host an Atlas Corps Fellow. One is that the Nestle Digital Communications team is very small and we hoped to find an efficient way to add talent and bandwidth for the coming year. The other is that Atlas Corps’ mission truly resonates here: talent comes in many forms and many places, but opportunity doesn’t. I personally have found working at Nestlé to be an amazing environment to grow and learn, and Atlas Corps presented an amazing chance to extend that learning environment to rising leaders from other countries. It was a great fit with our Project Opportunity program which looks to use hands-on training through apprenticeships to improve career readiness and accelerate growth for people of all ages and backgrounds.

How has hosting Shorouk influenced your team’s dynamic?

Shorouk has brought an amazing attitude and has directly contributed to our work at critical times. Everyone on our team loves training her on new tasks because she’s a great listener, takes feedback well, and continually improves her contributions. She holds herself to a high standard, takes on every task with enthusiasm, and really sets an amazing example for our whole team.

How have Shorouk’s contributions and insights impacted your organization? How will she advance your organization’s mission in the long run?

Shorouk has put a lot of time not only into contributing to our core work, like creating social media kits for volunteers and partners, but also to tracking the effectiveness of that work by directly following up, saving highlights from our partners, and ultimately making informed recommendations on what work is the most useful for our goals. This has been a great benefit for informing our decision making and using our resources wisely going forward.

What has Shorouk taught you?

Shorouk’s positive attitude has had such a great impact on me. It has made me think more about how I can bring that kind of positivity to my interactions with colleagues, regardless of the project or situation.
