In this world where our world leaders are talking about building walls, creating differences and oppressing minorities, it is tough to speak of hope or see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, the only thing that can drive us forward to do the meaningful work that we all seek to do is unwavering optimism and hope for a better world.
I have been a huge fan of late Faiz Ahmed Faiz; he was a Pakistani poet who through his words brought hope and light to the lives of his reader. Today, I would like to share one of his poems, that talks about unwavering optimism, even, in despair, Ummed-e-Sahar (hope of new dawn).
My heart is torn
Listen to the wounds of my heart
Listen to the hope of new dawn
I’m stricken with grief
Listen to my tears
Listen to the hope of new dawn
My tongue is dry, I’m unable to talk
Talk to my wounds
Listen to the hope of new dawn
My feet are tired
Listen to the sorrow of my journey
Listen to the hope of new drawn
From the one who travels in the dark desert of tyranny
Hear him speak of the beauty of dawn
Hope of a new drawn
My heart is torn
Listen to the wounds of my heart
Listen to the hope of new drawn
I’m stricken with grief
Listen to my tears
Listen to the hope of new drawn
My tongue is dry, I’m unable to talk
Talk to my wounds
Listen to the hope of new dawn
My feet are tired
Listen to the sorrow of my journey
Listen to the hope of new drawn
