Atlas Corps celebrates its 15th anniversary! It is time to celebrate the achievements of our amazing network of over 1,100 leaders from 110 countries and share stories on the global impact of our Alumni, Fellows, and Scholars.
Today we speak with our Atlas Corps Alumna, Trina (Class 15, India), the Co-Founder of Kranti, a nonprofit organization that empowers girls from Mumbai’s red-light areas to become agents of social change and happiness.
Thank you, Trina, for contributing towards empowering the vulnerable girls in India, through Kranti. We appreciate learning about your girl empowerment work and your personal and professional growth. We wish you the best with this impactful work!

Tell us about projects you have worked on?
At Kranti, we empower girls from Mumbai’s Red Light Areas, survivors of sex trafficking, and daughters of sex workers, to become agents of social change, who go back to their communities to solve many of the social problems they grew up facing.
Why is it important for you to work with girl empowerment projects?
I strongly believe that these girls from the Red Light Area are best positioned to be our future change agents. They understand social problems, like not having access to education, healthcare, or sexual abuse, deeply, having faced them first hand. They have the passion and commitment to go back to their communities and solve these problems for others like them, so they don’t have to face these problems and suffer as they did. So, at Kranti, we believe that if we can build the knowledge and leadership skills in these girls, we will multiply the number of social change leaders in our society, and therefore accelerate social development.
How has Atlas Corps contributed to your professional and personal accomplishments?
I have always worked with non-profits. During my Atlas Corps Fellowship, I had the opportunity to serve at American Express, Philanthropy, and experience the other side – funders! I have been able to do fundraising more efficiently because I understand where funders are coming from better due to my Atlas Corps Fellowship experience. In addition, I also got to attend the American Express Leadership Academy and be part of their Alumni network, which I built during my service. This experience helped me know my skills better as a leader and hone them. I continue to be in touch with the Alumni network and learn from them.
What is your favorite Atlas Corps memory?
Fellow parties at Channel Square!
What advice do you have for applicants and current Fellows?
The Atlas Corps Fellowship experience is so much more than your host organisation and what you learn there. You will learn the most important lesson from your fellow-Fellows, and it will be a network and a family that will stay with you for life.
What message would you like to send to individuals who support Atlas Corps?
A huge thank you to you. It is because of you that I, and thousands of non-profit leaders around the world, have had access to this life changing experience.
