Living in the US for 12-18 months doesn’t mean focusing on the professional aspect of Atlas Corps Fellowship, but getting exposed to the city where you live.
As I am approaching my last month in this fellowship, and saying “see ya” to my dear colleagues at my host organization, roommates, friends, and beloved MA – here are some places that I would recommend if you would like to visit Massachusetts:
(1) Boston Common; it’s America’s first and oldest public park founded in 1634. Located in downtown Boston – it’s readily accessible.
2) Public Garden; it’s also the first public botanical garden in America established in 1837. It’s one of the most beautiful places that you need to visit especially during spring. It’s not far from Boston Common; once you reach the end of the common, you only need to cross Charles Street and you will find yourself there.
(3) Quincy Market; it’s a historic market complex near Faneuil Hall in downtown Boston. It’s very crowded because there are many food shops inside the market. Make sure to try the Boston Cream Pie! However, you need to know that the original Boston Cream Pie is a culinary creation of Boston’s Parker House, which is now known as Omni Parker House.
(4) Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; established by Isabella Gardner in 1903. Isabella and her husband Jack assembled all the museum pieces from their travel with an idea of creating the museum. After her husband passed away, she decided to bring their joint dream into reality. This museum comprises art, plants, furniture, architecture, and fabrics. By the way, if you have Bank of America Card, then you can enter the museum for free during the first week of each month.
(5) Boston Harbor; if you like being near to the water then Boston Harbor is your destination where you can go to the Long Wharf or Fan Pier Park.
(6) Charles River; if you like walking and seeing the sunset, then I would recommend you to walk around Charles River which is an 80-mile-long from Hopkinton to Boston Harbor.
7) Spectacle Island; if you want to get away from the city and enjoy quiet time by yourself or friends, then you should go to the Spectacle Island. It’s 4.2 miles from Long Wharf – where you can do hiking and swimming. The cost to visit this Island is $20. However, if you would prefer visiting Island for free, then you can go to Castle Island – where you can do activities such as biking, walking, running, and swimming.
